Thank you so much for visiting Canine Cushing's Alliance. I hope you'll find support and helpful information about Cushing's disease here.

My Sheltie, Violet, inspired me to create this website. Violet's journey with Cushing's disease has been a long one. Shortly before her 5th birthday, she started having accidents in the house, which were unusual for her. She also had a ravenous appetite that no amount of food could satiate. I brought her to the veterinarian, who found high amounts of protein in Violet's urine but nothing else out of the ordinary. So, we were sent on our way.

For the next three years, Violet continued to experience accidents, extreme hunger, and protein loss. Unfortunately, none of the vets she saw knew what was going on. They suggested everything from Lyme disease to chronic UTIs, but nothing seemed to fit. Whenever I brought up Cushing's, it was quickly dismissed because she was "too young" and wasn't losing her fur.

Then, in 2023, an internal medicine specialist conducted an ultrasound and found a nodule on Violet's adrenal gland. That's what led to her finally being tested for Cushing's disease. Not surprisingly, the results were positive. But that wasn't the end of the story. The specialist wanted to put Violet on a very large dose of medication, which caused alarm bells to go off in my head. I decided to seek treatment elsewhere and brought Violet to yet another vet. Thankfully, the next one agreed to start her on a lower dose.

Today, Violet is doing well. She no longer has accidents, and her appetite is back to normal (although she hasn't lost her love for treats). My hope is that this website will help other dogs with Cushing's disease to be as healthy and happy as Violet.
